"REBEL SPEEDWAY!"

Howdy Folks!

My name is Mark Osborne, and I authored and illustrated "Rebel Speedway," a book about the race happenings from a South Carolina track's birth in 1957 until it's 20th anniversary. The track is still in operation today, it's 51st season, although I only covered the years that I was a track regular, before leaving home for the U.S. Navy.

My main story centers on a young black man named Mack Flemming, who came to the track to race with the regular "Good Ol' Boys," but instead he was greeted with dirt clods and horrible racism by a few locals in the pits.

The majority of the book however, is filled with great recollections of precision racing, and metal grinding bamming and framming. Out of the 142 pages, there are 115 of my painted illustrations and 35 actual photographs of the cars and stars of the track's memorable years.

I've put together a YOU TUBE presentation of about 40 of the painted illustations, which I'm certain you will find enjoyable, and will watch more than a few times. The opening of the presentation shows award-winning actor, Billy-Bob Thornton receiving a painting I did of his greasy mechanic/race driving character, "Darrell," from his movie, "U-Turn."
