| What is the best gear for a thunderstock at PCS? How do I get to that gear since I cannot run a Ford rearend? What gear for the 10 bolt and which transmission in which gear. Thanks for your help, I am totally confused! | |

| I have won races at satsuma with ratios from 6.00 up to 7.10, but a good place to start would be 6.50 to 6.70....If you have a 2.73 rear end and have a 2.47 transmission, you have a 6.74, if you have a 3.08 rear end with a 2.20 transmission you have a 6.77. There are lots of other combinations. Good Luck. | |

| You need to confirm your rear gear ratio, first. Pull the cover and wipe the ring gear edge. You are looking for some numbers stamped into it. Possibly like 16;42 or something similiar. That is the ring and pinion gear count. It could even be on a tag on the rear end. Those numbers are the gear count 42 would be the count of the ring gear, 16 is the teeth on the pinion gear. So you divide 42 divided by 16 = 2.63. While I have the rear open I always count the gears just to confirm the gear and if all else fails, just mark one tooth and count teeth as you turn the gear til you get back to the mark. Do this for the ring gear and the pinion gear. then divide.
To get to final gear you have to multply the rear gear by the transmission gear. To find trans gear you identify the trannie by the style and number of grooves in the front shaft and look it up on the internet. Or if it is a manuel trans you can get close by marking the front shaft and the tailshaft in the gear you wish to use. Then turn the front shaft 1 complete revolution while counting the nomber of times the tailshaft turns. For instance you turn it and the tail turns 2 complete times and almost 3/4, you would probably have a 2.68 ratio. SO 2.63 X 2.68 = 7.04 Final gear. | |

| Forgot to add that we have won races in thunderstock, pure stock and hobby stock with ratios from 6.00, 6.14, 6.77 and 6.84. 10 races in a row in 2002 if I remember correctly. | |

| We run a 620 final gear at Putnam and it seems to work great and use to use a 633 that also worked well | |
